I have a wordpress website using SEO Yoast and its crawling image attachment URL.

Same results are also shown in search console categorising them as 404 errors. ?I had not enabled attachment sitemap. Everthing is hidden but still google is crawling image attachment urls and showing them in search console

    Please assist with this.

    Hello @ulyssever,

Thanks for reaching out about your media pages. I see two WebP images reported as 404 errors. Are these images still present on your site or deleted?

Hella @maybellyne, Thanks for the quick reply.

    There are deleted.
Furthermore, I also have a lot of 404 with the word “feed” or “attachement” in the URL. How could I remove them so google doesn’t crawl them, and what do they mean or represent?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello @maybellyne, any news?

If the images are deleted, then a 404 error is a valid HTTP status header to get. 404 errors are perfectly normal; with time, Google will stop crawling them. Instead of outrightly deleting pages, resulting in 404s, you may consider 410-content deleted status or 301 redirects. See: How to properly delete a page from your site.

About /feed/ URLs, by default, WordPress adds the feed URL for all the pages and comments on every website. When Google notices these feed URLs, it tries to crawl these feed pages, which causes the crawl budget to be used ineffectively.

So you could “Remove global feeds”?in WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > Advanced > Crawl Optimization > Disable unwanted content formats

    Hello @maybellyne,

“So you could “Remove global feeds”?in?WordPress > Yoast SEO > Settings > Advanced > Crawl Optimization > Disable unwanted content formats” all of the settings in Unwanted content format are disable since the beginning, what could I do other that this?

    Thanks for your answer!

Since those URLs are reporting a 404, Google can’t index them and will stop crawling them after some time.

By the way, I don’t believe you have turned OFF feeds as I can access yours here.

@maybellyne Thanks for the info about the 404 I will wait then.
I agree with you it shouldn’t be accessible…However, as you can see from the screenshots, all the features are turned OFF. Any clue?

    Again, thanks in advance!

@ulyssever, I meant you need to toggle ON the button to Remove global feeds

@maybellyne thanks I will try and keep you updated about the results. Is there any other button I should turn ON regarding my initial problem?

Please review Yoast SEO settings: Crawl optimization to know which applies in your case before turning any ON.
