WordPress implementation in a framework

    Hi, first of all sorry about my English, it is not my native language. I would like to know which are the reasons why WordPress is not implemented in a framework like Symfony as they provide maintainability, simplicity and performance. It’s a future plan for the community to port the CMS to this kind of techlogy? Why? Why not?

  • I would say that WordPress in itself is a framework, easily extendable through a large number of hooks, filters and functions (both to be used and to be “pluggable” i.e. possible to redefine them, for instance with some plugin code).
    And it is actively maintained by a large community of developers who volunteer their time and skills to maintain and develop this framework.

    WordPress predates Symfony by about 2.5 years.

    Understand that 15 years ago, PHP frameworks mostly didn’t exist. Rewriting WordPress to use such a framework now would not be conducive to backwards compatibility, which is one of WordPress’ core tenets.

    If you prefer to use such a framework to create some piece code, then by all means use it. We love other open source projects. Try Drupal, it has much more of a framework-like nature to it, and good support and a wide userbase as well.

    Coincidentally, Drupal 8 is built on Symfony ??

    I recommend using Drupal. It has a wonderful framework.
