Hello all. I’m in the process of rebuilding my website, and I want to import my old posts from my wordpress.com blog so that I can fill out my new blog and use the old posts for testing. I signed into my wordpress.com blog, went to Tools > Export, and performed a full export. Then I signed into the admin area of my new site, went to Tools > Import, and tried to import the XML file, but the importer isn’t working properly. The first time, it imported about a third of the photos. The second time another third. Then I tried importing it with the ‘import attachments’ box unchecked, and that imported the posts but none of the photos are attached to the posts.

As far as I can tell, all of the content has been imported, but I don’t really want to have to go through and manually insert all of the photos to the proper posts. How can I get this to work? The XML file is only 779 KB, so file size is not an issue.

Here’s my site if you want to have a look.

I found a splitter here, but the smallest increment it will split into is 1 MB. My file is only 779 KB, so that won’t really work. Any other ideas?

You could talk to your hosts and ask them if they can temporarily raise the PHP script timeout on your site to allow you to get the import done.
