WordPress Importer 505 Error

  • After re-installing wordpress, I’ve run into a few problems with the WordPress Importer Plugin. I’ve managed to solve them all but the last one.
    As I’m importing the xml file from my wordpress.com I get all the way to the Assign Authors step, I can’t seem to make it past that step though.
    It always takes me to the 500 (Internal Server) Error page.

    The file is small (217 KB) so I don’t that that’s the issue. Perhaps it’s a problem with the plugin itself…

    I have no idea, thanks in advance for any and all help.

  • Could you check your error log for any information? If you’re on shared hosting with cPanel (or some other admin interface) it should be easily accessible through that interface.

    Have you tried a really small file to rule out any size issue (though I agree it’s not a large file)? Make a copy of the XML file and then edit it to remove all but one post (they are the <item> tags).

    If possible could you give me some more information about your server setup to see if I can reproduce this error?
