• Just tried to install a domain on WP like I have before but this time it didn’t work. It didn’t take me to my Dashboard so I tried the install again and got an error message with words to the effect “cannot install more than once in the root directory”

    So how do I unistall and install again or what do I do to get complete the install and get to the dashboard. Thanks for your help!

  • Create a new folder and install into that instead of the root.

    Are you trying reinstall in root or install 2nd wordpress?

    I was trying a second time to install wordpress since it didn’t work the first time. This is in version 3.0.3.

    The first time I was not delivered to the Dashboard so I tried a second time and got this ereror message:

    “Install WordPress (2/3)

    The installation can not be completed:
    – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

    Click on the browser’s Back button to fix reported errors.”

    Then when I click the browsers back button there is no indication of where to fix the error. I am not familiar with root directories or hopw to reinstall or unistall to start over.

    Did you delete all wordpress files and folders and database from root.
    There is hidden file .htaccess you need delete that file as well using filzilla then try from scratch

    There should not be any other file in root that will conflict with wordpress.

    It seems that you are using Fantastico to install wordpress. If this is the case then there is no need to delete anything.

    Login to your control panel. Go to your file manager. Now, outside your root folder(may be public_html), you will find the folder named as .fantastico. Go inside this folder.

    You will find the file named as “installed_in_root.php”. Please edit this file. Now you will find the variable as installed_in_root = “1”;

    Instead of “1” please make it “0”.

    After that try your installation. It should go through.
