• Hi, I have a html site. Now i want install wordpress on the site. I know that once i will install wordpress on the root, then the old site links will not be accessible.

I want to install wordpress on root, and then somehow put it in ‘disable/maintenance’ mode. and start developing/customizing my theme on the backend on server. While my current html site will still be accessible to my visitors. And once i finished the development/customizing of theme, then i will enable the wordpress.

Is there any plugin for that ?

    Thank you.

  • Hi iJial, a better short term solution may be for you to install it in a sub directory and work until you’re happy.

Once you’ve completed the theme, simply export your WordPress (Tools > Export) and install a new WordPress in the root directory, where you’ll import (Tools > Import), then you can delete the old directory after moving your theme files.
