    Hi,

I have a urgent duplicator settings questions. For example: old website = domain.com and the new website is installed on the webspace installation-domain.com at the same hoster.

Under “new settings” you have the URL and the server path like this:
    URL: https://installation-domain.com/
    PATH: /home/domains/www.installation-domain.com/docs/

After the installation the URL domain.com, where the current old website runs, the URL is switched and refers now to the installation-domain.com

The website runs, but the URL in the browser is instead of domain.com
    installation-domain.com

How can I solve this issue with duplicator? Or do you have a really working way of changing the URL in WordPress after the installation via duplicator? Webspace domain isn′t the target domain… Thanks!

What do you want the new site URL to be?

Is is the hosting server as the old site?

    Old site: domain.com

    Hey Schmecktes,

If you want to retain the old domain name of the original site name “domain.com” then on step 2 of the installer you can click the edit link beside the url and path to make them whatever you want.

However if you already have a directory on your web server mapped to “domain.com” with a wp-site installed and registered with that name, then if you install a copy of that site in a different directory then its not going to work with domain.com unless you change where its point to via your hosts cpanel setup (just an fyi).

Let me know if that helps!

    Hi Cory,

thanks for your answer. I think it’s more the second paragraf. Maybe I describe this confusing thing in short steps.
    – upload of the duplicator package to the installion webspace.
    – Website works on this address
    – the domain is switched from the old website (webspace) to the new of the same hoster.
    – by typing of the URL the visitor gets the new website but the installation webspace in the browser URL. Not the wished domain

My question is, if I can solve it during the installation with the preferences of duplicator. I guess not?! And afterwords propably not too?
    Thanks!

    Hey schmecktes,

I think I see the issue… In order for it to work on some hosts you have to create was is known as an “Addon domain”, here is an example of setting one up. You might check with your host and see if they have something similar. This article might also help out.

    Hope that helps out some!

    Hi Cory,

Thanks for the links. Yes it goes more in that issue. But we have no staging site and no entry to the hoster backend. We work together with another agency, that hosts the domain in this case. They switch from the installation webspace to the target domain. After that we have the problem. It is more like this: URL changing
So I thought, maybe I can solve it before with the preferences or help of duplicator. Thanks

PS. I saw it here in a german webdesign blog. Using a migrate plugin for that issue as the best of all possibilities.

He suggests quite the same as the last link and in the end he highly recommends the changing of the database using a migrate plugin (duplicator or migrate DB) that can retype the server paths. Steps of Die WordPress-Adresse über die Datenbank ?ndern:
    1) Find out the absolute path
    2) Find and replace
    3) ZIP
    4) import it in PHPmyadmin

So I use duplicator for migration. Can I solve it with that? Do you see now my problem and maybe it′s possible with duplicator? Do you have experience with that issue?

    Thanks!

    Hey schmecktes,

WP Migrate DB is a great plugin. I also make mention of it here. Lots of people use both plugins to manage moving/managing their sites. I believe that combination may work, but of course every environment has its minor custom enhancements, that you might have to tweak to get it all going, I think with your environment since you don’t have full control, it may be problematic…

    Cheers~
