• I’ve been getting this error “wordpress is currently unable to handle this request HTTP ERROR 500” every time I try to activate a plugin. I began deactivating plugins one at a time and trying to activate the new plugins and still get the 500 error. Then before going further I tried reactivating the plugins I turned off and I get the 500 error.

  • @sterndata, i just tried to help and not to start a thread. Thanks anyway!

    Figured it out..

    Open wp-config.php
Set define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ’64M’); – or 128M if still has error

    Hope that helps! ??

@jdesignz, can you please explain that solution? I can do it, but I’m not very code-savvy so I’m wondering if it’s a good solution for anybody.

I’m having the same error 500, though it only comes up when I try to go to the “CUSTOMIZE” page on my theme (everything else works great), and when I try the same thing on my localhost version of my website, everything works – no error. Same versions for all of the themes and plugins.

I tried re-installing WordPress on my official site, and there’s no difference.

    Thanks!

Can you deactivate plugins for me because I have no access to the dashboard. The last plugin that I wanted to update was Top 10. Since then, whenever I try to go “behind the scenes” on my website, I have encoutered the error 500

    Thank you,
    Barbara

This worked for me (updating WP)! Thanks.

Also, if you can’t login via the /wp-admin url, try /wp-login.php

My Issue was this error prevented my access to the dashboard, and hence I had to go to the database and remove plugins. **How Else???**
    I removed this text “i:28;s:24:”wordpress-seo/wp-seo.php”;”

“I would suggest the same as Marius did, if you can access your wordpress dashboard, then deactivate all and reactivate one by one, if you cannot access your dashboard page at all, then you must remove the recent plugin entry from the database table wp_options, option name ‘active_plugins’ and then your wordpress dashboard page will be accessible. Hope that helps.

    Brilliant Thank you.

It did break a bunch of things but at least I now have controll again.
Shame no one can provide a straight answer.
