wordpress loaded….wp-admin/install.php does not work

  • I have restarted from the beginning, set up my sql database (wordpress)
    loaded the wordpress folder contents through FTP…everything is there.
    Went to my domain.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php….HTTP 404 not found error.

    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘dbxxxx78970’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘dboxxxx78970’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘xxxxxxx’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘zzzzz.xxxxxxx.net’);
    I have tried local host and the host name in DB host
    What am I doing wrong, I’m new to all of this , but I should be able to do this …very frustrated

  • If you’re getting a 404 error then the file isn’t there. You didn’t upload it where you think you did. Did you unzip the WP download and upload the folder INSIDE what you unzipped? Just the folder that says “wordpress”?

    Yes, I unzipped WP, then I opened wordpress and upload all the files inside to the wordpress subfolder? in my domain using smart FTP…wp admin,wp content,wpincludes. When I look inside the directory the install.php file is there ….I’m so confused

    Again, what is the URL?

    Who’s your host? Are you sure you actually uploaded them and that they’re uploaded to the correct spot?

    the host is 1and1.
    i followed this tutorial

    It is on the server in the directory , I’m doing it for a friends website

    Well all can say is you’re not uploading to the correct place and/or where you think you’re uploadng. I take it you don’t want to give the URL since you keep ignoring the request?

    Yes I restarted from the beginning..deleted everything and started from scratch. the php files are there now .and they are in the server/host in the webspace explorer under the wordpress directory/file
    In smart FTP when I open the connection , the folders are there too, inside the wordpress folder that I made …does that make sense? i have never done this before , can you tell..lol

    you need to have EVERYTHING INSIDE whatever 1&1 uses for their publicly accessible web dir.

    according to what Ive seen on their site they use htdocs to specify that directory. Inside that you are uploading so that that aforementioned wordpress directory is INSIDE that.

    I have gotten to here….
    There doesn’t seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Need more help? We got it. You can create a wp-config.php file through a web interface, but this doesn’t work for all server setups. The safest way is to manually create the file.
    I have reloaded the config.php with my data still not working??
    any ideas?

    hi. i’m having the same exact problem with mine.

    i’ve changed the config file as instructed. i’ve used several different ftp sites. i’ve uploaded everything right (i think) to my server (i’m using fatcow). i’ve even asked my friend who does this frequently what the problem is.
    but still! i’m not doing it right!
    the easy “5 minute install” has taken me five weeks! please someone help me!!! ??

    i used to have problem too,5minutes ago but your solostream link helped me figure out the problem.
    I use ooowebhost and problem lied in that i didnt setup MySQL on my host.
    After i set them up it will show db-name,pswd,…those that you have to fill in your wp-config,that’s it!

    and you have to upload the newsaved wp-congif to wordpress folder not other.
