I now get the login screen, I had the wrong tag on the end.

Now the login I use to get into support does not work to get into the login screen that comes up when I put https://url/wp-login.php.

Is there a different u/n and p/w for each url that WP is assigned to?

Are you using wordpress.com or your own install at your own host?

    If using wordpress.com, go here – https://en.support.wordpress.com/

If using your own host, go to – https://url/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword to reset your password ??

I am using my own host and have done exactly (I think) what you are suggesting. I get the new password which works to get into this forum, but it rejects it when I try to log into my url/wp-login.php.

The username I use to attempt is the U/N I use in the request.

Note however, when I use the e mail which is the one I thought I put in the records and the one the PW is sent to, for the U/N, it says no such e mail exists in the system.

The username/password for our own WP installation and these forums have nothing in common.

You need to be doing the password reset for your own site, by entering your username or password. This is for your site only, not the forums ??

I understand, how do I find out what U/N and P/W was really used for a specific URL or do I delete the WordPress with that URL and start over?

I wrote down my U/N which is the same as I use regularly and the P/W that came back for that U/N on the https://url/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword did not work to login.

If I gave you the URL, could you get the correct U/N and P/W?

    Thanks

    Gary Akin

    Hi Gary,

The password that is emailed to you should work. Make sure the username and password are typed in correctly as they are both case sensitive.

Supplying your URL will not help anyone find your username or password.

If it’s a new install and if you can’t get in after that, try re-installing.
