Whenever I am working in my dashboard, wordpress logs me out anytime I switch tabs. For example, if I’m writing a new post, then notice a notification on facebook so switch to that tab, when I return to the wordpress tab, a pop-up appears wanting me to login again.
This is incredibly frustrating and time consuming because I tend to do a lot of tab-bouncing when creating posts or updating pages etc…
Any fix? This only started happening within the last 3 months or so.
    Thanks!

Check settings, general and make sure WordPress address and site address both have www or no www. They should be the same.

I did that and they were both the same “https://vohafrica.com” so I changed BOTH to “https://www.vohafrica.com” and that didn’t fix it.

It’s gotten worse: now instead of giving me a pop-up that says “Session expired, login again no changes will be lost” it takes me from the page I’m editing back to the main login page so I do lose all my changes :/

(also tried activating the “configure login timeout” plugin as others did, and it didn’t fix it).

Was just on the phone with my hosting company (bluehost) and they were very helpful but it isn’t an issue with them/hosting. It is clearly a wordpress problem.

OK – that looks like it may be over my head. I know the basics of managing a wordpress site and css/html customizations, but that seems a bit more complex. Any simplification would be helpful! Including where to edit those files (would I do that using wordpress or bluehost?)

Also, I am meant to update my theme and my theme company said I will lose ALL my customizations when I do so and will have to start from scratch again (I know….) so if I change this now, does that mean it will just revert to the problem after updating the theme? Is it possible it’s a theme issue? (though I’ve had this theme for over a year and this problem is only 2 months old)
    thanks!

As WPyogi explained, the basic debug is plugins and switching themes. It would effect your site for just a minute or two. Without that we are just guessing.

    Try this. In the wp-config.php file right after the <?php add this line define('COOKIE_DOMAIN', 'https://www.vohafrica.com');
Save a copy of the original file.

Also, I am meant to update my theme and my theme company said I will lose ALL my customizations when I do so and will have to start from scratch again

Wow, you really need a new theme. That is ridiculous.

What theme is that? Have you modified theme files? You should not do that – except using a child theme – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes ; Theme settings and options set in the Dashboard should not be lost.

OK – I will try doing that tomorrow to get to the bottom of it – thanks.

It is the “nonprofit” theme by Organic themes – yes I am not impressed. They didn’t even notify me about the update until I inquired becuase of an issue I was having. AND they don’t let you update through wordpress, you have to download the files then upload them from scratch and start all over with your customizations. Is this typical? It’s not how my other sites/themes work…

It has to do with the fact I didn’t create a child theme as WPyogi mentioned – i was never told not to modify files, anytime I inquired about customizing appearance and functions etc… I was just told to apply to user.css or header.css etc…within wordpress and no one ever mentioned I should be doing this via a child theme – you live and you learn I guess. I did find the thing that explaind how to create a child theme, so I will give it a go …but will literally have to rebuild the site from scratch (unless there is another way?) so I may just stick with the old version of the theme for now even though it isn’t “recommended”

This issue is still not resolved… Interestingly, I am using Safari now and WordPress logs me out every time I switch tabs (which is frustrating if I’m updating a page and want to view the preview for example).

However, when I tested in Google Chrome, the issue didn’t happen (the opposite of what was happening when I originally posted on this forum). I am using a new computer that is the only thing that has changed.

Any suggestions? I’ve tried deleting cookies but that didn’t seem to work. Or at least it worked for a little while but tonight the problem has returned.

I don’t think it’s a plugin because then assumingly it would also have the same problem in Chrome?

    Help! ??

Any help on this? The problem is persisting and I’ve confirmed it is not my theme. I don’t have any plugins that are different than my other site and my other site doesn’t have this issue.

I also can’t really disable all my plugins because not only would I loose many of my saved settings, but it would also leave my site useless while I test it.

I do believe this is a WordPress issue – other forums talking about this have discovered the same thing. They’ve tried everything and the only result is a wordpress update is glitched.

Any help would be appreciated because this makes me want to rip my hair out!

You have used http and https in different locations. It should most likely be http. I think that may be causing the problem.

This is an error report from your facebook plugin.

Given URL is not allowed by the Application configuration.: One or more of the given URLs is not allowed by the App’s settings. It must match the Website URL or Canvas URL, or the domain must be a subdomain of one of the App’s domains. ping?client_id=246727095428680&domain=vohafrica.com&origin=1&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.ak.fa…:1

Bluehost charges have a ssl that uses just your domain name. Are you paying for that?

This issue will never be resolved unless you are willing to debug on your end. It is not a WordPress problem. WordPress has been downloaded 29,475,891 times. Set up a subdomain and install WordPress on it (like test.www.vohafrica.com) and see if the problem is still there with the Twenty Fourteen theme.

For support of your commercial theme, please go to the vendors official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations. Doing this will provide the developer with the income they need to make WordPress awesome.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

I am sorry you are having trouble. I know from experience how frustrating this can be.
