WordPress media gallery Not Working

Out of nowhere, my wp site’s images stopped showing up. The thumbnails, post images all gone. Now they’re showing up as attachment pages which are now error 404 coz nothing is there.
I was also unable to upload new images but after changing some file permission now i can upload pics only from media>add new, unable to upload from direct post pages.
To my dilemma I can’t even use those uploaded pics in my post. What the hell.
