WordPress MU not allowing new site addition?

I am getting this message when I try to add a new site.
Missing or invalid site address.
My main site is:
https://www.granturismoleague.comThe new site is installed under sub-dir:
https://www.granturismoleague.com/members/eventsTried some plugins suggested in other threads like Multi-network and Hive… neither did anything though.
Any idea what the problem might be?
