• as I ‘ve mentioned at this topic . I hope WordPress MS has the ability to creat the child sites outside the main directory soon. Says, if your root WordPress MS is domain.com/sub1/, you shall be able to creat a child site with domain.com/sub2/ instead of having to create it with domain.com/sub1/sub2/ . Current version (3.4 beta) does not have this ability yet, it gives a 404 error when you try to change the URL of child sites to be outside of the ROOT.

And as I told you: Trac ticket already exists: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/19796

It’s not happening in 3.4, we know ??

Hi Ipstenu, Thanks for responding. Because I see the trac ticket not really saying what I am facing with. WP MS works well with sub directories, but I hope it will be possible to run WP MS outside of the ROOT. Now hoping it will happen in 3.5 ??

    Out of sheer curiosity…

Do you mean you want to install WordPress in /home/vnmember/ and NOT /home/vnmember/public_html/

Is THAT what you mean by ‘outside of root’?

    Becuase this:

Says, if your root WordPress MS is domain.com/sub1/, you shall be able to creat a child site with domain.com/sub2/

Is exactly what that ticket is about ?? Once we can run WP outside of it’s own directory, the rest will flow.

Hi Ipstenu, The root here means domain.com/ not the sever folder path… Anyway, after a few days of researching, I am thinking about giving up, moving my wordperss to the root directory. WordPress MS does not fully support sub-directory installation But it will be a trouble because I have been running my wordpress for a long time. Do you think it worth to move WordPress? Should I wait for the next releases when wordpress MS has the ability? (will it happen in 3.5 or so?)

    Root is relative ??

The root of your domain is domain.com. The root of your install is wherever you installed.

WordPress Multisite does support subfolder installs.

It 100% does not support installing into a subfolder and NOT using that folder in the URL.

If you want WP Multisite to run out of domain.com, you MUST install it there. Sucks, but that’s what it is right now.

    Thanks ??
