WordPress multisite issues- GoDaddy? or me?
-
I’ve got a few problems with my WordPress install and can’t figure out where to begin to unravel it. I’m hosted on GoDaddy, with shared hosting. My WP blog worked fine until I tried to use the multi-site feature. I followed all the instructions, created a wildcard * in the dns and pasted all the WP code into the relevant places. Now I get a 403 error whenever trying to go to a ‘sub’ blog I created (the blog is created ok, it’s in the list, just can’t access it).
My questions are a couple. 1.) does multi-site even work with GoDaddy shared hosting? I’ve seen a few posts about GoDaddy and it seems possible to have some issues with them. I don’t want to keep trying at it if it’s not a workable solution (if that’s the case, does anyone know of a simple to use hosting service that works with multi-site?).
2.) possibly this is the problem. GoDaddy has a WP app installer so it’s easy to set WP up. When I installed it I think it was WP 2.8. But I’ve just been accessing the blog through the WP admin, and have updated it to 3.0 there. However, GoDaddy still has 2.8 listed as the version. So am I using 2 different versions of WP and that is causing the multisite issue? I called GoDaddy several times and have not been able to work this out. I supposedly deleted the 2.8 and installed the 3.0 through GoDaddy but I’m not seeing anything different. In GoDaddy it says I’m using 2.8 and in WP admin I’m in 3.0.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated. My blog is not extensive so if it seems the best thing to do is start from scratch with another hosting company I could do that. And if I do that do I just copy the database and replace it on the new installation and host? Sorry if this is a lot of questions- I’m not a WP expert. I do programming in VB so I’m not completely without knowledge, but this has really stopped me…. Many thanks in advance!
