There are several problems with the WordPress back end of my site and although the failure to display the RSS feed from WordPress does not seem important, I think it may be symptomatic of the underlying problem.

What I see in the admin dashboard for WordPress News is:
RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: couldn’t connect to host
    and this is repeated twice.

The other main thing that is not working is that if I click on plugins, add new – the system goes away for a while and presents a blank page except for some of the WordPress menu items on the left hand side – no menu items displayed below Appearance, Themes.

I have deleted all the original plugins from wp-content and deleted the wp-admin & wp-includes folders. I then reinstalled WP v4 and recreated the wp-config file.

I have tried to install Sucuri to check out the installation but am unable to complete the installation as there is a prompt to generate an API key where the link does not function plus the Sucuri image is not displayed – this also fells like it is caused by the same underlying issue.

Has anyone any clues or suggestions? Help!

    Thanks,
    Bill

This is still an issue but I have resolved some of the other issues described. The server did not meet the minimum PHP version requirement. Once that was upgraded I was able to do a fresh install of WP and most things started working again.

If anyone can suggest why this simple RSS facility in the Dashboard is not working then I would really like to put it right.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I don’t understand why but this morning it’s working again! Hence I’m closing the issue.
