• I went to log in as usual to the wordpress site I am building and found that I could no longer access it. I have installed a newly purchased premium theme and uploaded it by ftp but surely that shouldn’t affect my ability to login which would surely be at the wordpress root, no?

The site isn’t at the domain root but in a sub-folder imaginatively named /wordpress/ while I develop it.

What should I be checking to see what might be causing the site not to load?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Access your site by FTP and rename the current installed theme. WordPress will switch automatically to a Twenty theme. If your backend works again, it’s definitely a theme problem.

Please, how can I rename the installed theme? I’m already in CPanel, File Manager. Thanks.

Thanks for that. The theme was the problem. Followed your advice and all’s well now. Strange because I’m already using the problem theme on another site without any problems. Will trouble shoot the download next week but for now, the site is back up and running. Many thanks.
