WordPress not sending password

  • When a customer newly registers as a Contributor, WordPress indicates success (check your mailbox for your password) yet no password email is received.

    Using 3.4.2 on PHP5.3 CGI.

    My domain sever sends email, so that isn’t the problem. WP Admin mail comes through to me. Database tables have the correct user information.

    What is the problem? What is the solution?

    Check with your host, your server’s IP could be being rejected by the other end (SMTP mail receiver). The mail log will should show on your server if that’s the case.

    If that is the case then ask your host “How can I configure my server to deliver mail to other people?”

    If a person registers, they are told to check their email Inbox for a password- no email appears in their Inbox or Spam box. Should they then request a ‘lost password’ they receive the lost password email; so I don’t see how this can be an SMTP issue. The problem only occurs with a new registration.

    Do you agree that is not an IP block issue?

    Again, the problem seems to be only with original registration password emails.

    It was just something to check as part of troubleshooting. You receive admin mail so mail is configured correctly. But other people do not receive mail which makes me think it could be a SMTP relay issue.

    But if they can receive lost password emails then that’s probably not it. But looking at the mail log would at least confirm if your installation is even attempting to send that mail.

    Do you have any plugins activated on your installation? Just as a temporary measure can you deactivate all of them and switch to the Twenty Eleven theme? Then have someone else (or use a different browser with it’s cookies cleared) attempt to register again.
