    Hi guys!

I’m looking into purchasing a new domain name and web hosting soon, and after some pretty horrible experiences with GoDaddy I’ve decided to go with a different host.

I’m attracted to 1&1 because of the features they offer for the price, and I like being able to get my hosting and domain name from the same company. What experience do people here have with hosting WordPress on 1&1? Again, I’m hoping to avoid some of the sorts of problems I’ve had with GoDaddy (nothing ever seems to work out of the box, I’m having to constantly edit PHP configuration files and tweak other settings, costing time and money). Does 1&1 seem to be more fine-tuned for WordPress by default? And if not, do their features for the price offset any added annoyances of using them? If not, what are some other recommendations for hosts?

    Much thanks all,

    -john

My experiences with 1&1 have been anywhere in the range from bad to outright horrible. When it comes to hosting, as with most things, you generally get what you pay for. It’ll cost more, but if the site is for a business or you’re expecting more than nominal traffic, I would recommend seeking out a hosting provider that specializes in WordPress hosting. Not just one that offers it, but one that does nothing else.

Bluehost and Siteground are pretty good too.

Thanks guys. I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for Bluehost for WordPress hosting; perhaps I’ll go with them. Marc–are their standard packages a good solution for WordPress? The optimized WordPress hosting seems a little pricey, and I’m not sure I would need the extra features anyway.

I’d try WPEngine also. I’ve heard good things about them.
