• Has anyone as yet come up with a way to speed up wordpress with godaddy linux hosting? I have 4 sites hosted there and have never had a problem. Just added a wordpress blog https://www.inspirationalparenting.com and it is unbearably slow. Even got warned by google that there was a problem. I see a lot of other people with the same complaints but cannot find a solution other than switch web hosts. I am ready to do that at this point! Godaddy support just tells me everything is fine and that it is a WordPress problem. I have tried different themes including just the basic one and they are all the same. Admin is so slow it sometimes just hangs. FTP is impossible! It can take hours to upload a small site with me having to retry time after time. Their own FTP site won’t even do more than 1 file at a time without hanging!

    Any ideas???

  • We hear what you’re saying and wanted to follow up. We’ve made calls to several of the posters on this thread. If you have not received a call, we have not been able to get a hold of you, or we can’t locate your account. Please post your domain name and we will get in touch.

What we’ve found that has helped increase site speed in many cases and mentioned by Otto42, is a third-party plug-in called Super-Cache. You can see more here: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/

I’m having the same problem with my WordPress 2.8.1 (& now 2.8.2) blog on a shared Godaddy server.

If I am reading Firebug correctly there is a 5sec or so delay between connecting to the database and the first download.

If never had problems with any previous WP installation on similar GoDaddy accounts. I have tried the Super-Cache plugin. No difference.

I would appreciate any help from anyone that has solved this or from GoDaddy themselves. I will not however switch to a dedicated server, nor will I teach myself mysql in order to optimize the database (their sole suggestion so far).

    Thanks.

Having hosted with GoDaddy in the past, all I can say is that my experience was miserable at best. We were running SMF forums and Joomla and they were both incredibly slow. When I went to the server and tried to connect to the database they had provided, I found that it was taking for EVER to connect to from the web server to the database server. So long, in fact, that it was frequently timing out. I was given every excuse under the sun, including the fact that my ISP was slow. Never mind that this web site was for a literally globe spanning development team. Even though I had people in Germany, France, Brazil, and China all telling me that it was slow, its because of *my* ISP???? I came to the conclusion that GoDaddy tech support is either 1) LYING THEIR BUTTS OFF or 2) Knuckle dragging mouth breathing retards. Either way, I’d advise you to switch immediately. I’ve had really good results with Lunarpages.com Cheap and you can call them 24×7 with issues and get immediate, english speaking tech support that knows what in heck they’re talking about.

I thought I was the only one! Now I’m considering switching to another host. However, I don’t know how to manually install WordPress. I tried and tried and it is waaaay too complicated for me. Are there any hosting companies anyone could recommend that serves WordPress fast and can install it automatically for you? How’s bluehost?

I use BlueHost. They have been great for me! I have several installations of WordPress with them on a few different domains. They do have an automatic installer as well.

For trying to deal with slow problems, look into some of the following:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_Optimization/Cheat_Sheet
    https://www.ads-software.com/search/optimize+wordpress?forums=1
    https://www.ads-software.com/search/cpu?forums=1

I’m not sure what caused it, but on one installation, I simply had to reinstall it again to make it go faster so, while that may not be the issue, it is worth a try, too.

Wow – Godaddy are getting a proper bashing in here. I feel it only fair for at least one person to come to their defense. I’ve had problems for sure (out of the blue server migration being my biggest gripe) but never any performance issues with WordPress installations and that includes today. Obviously Godaddy’s servers are in the US, and from here in the UK my WordPress installations are running fine and dandy. I’m on their deluxe package with a static IP. It’s cheap as chips, and does the job for me – I’d be happy to grouch about them if it wasn’t. FTP access can be a little laggy, but for the price it’s an acceptable compromise for me.

I’ve tried reinstalling many times, and it does almost nothing for me. I’ve become an expert at WordPress optimization lately because of this problem. I would switch to BlueHost right away, however I did a search to see who people like better and there are a lot of very bad reviews of them out there, and I’m not sure what to believe. It seems like the web is full of fake reviews of both godaddy and bluehost and other hosting companies that i don’t know if anything that i read is anything more than someone trying to switch people over.

Why do you supposed Godaddy can’t serve WordPress very well? Wouldn’t their servers be just as good as anyone else’s? Why would BlueHost be able to serve WordPress better?

Let me chime with my .02 cents. I have used another web hosting company (Total Choice Hosting) for 7 years, and never had any performance issues on their shared servers. This past year I accepted work to develop two web sites, and in both cases, they purchased their domain name and web space from GoDaddy.

The first is a dedicated web server, and it runs great. The second site, however, is on a shared Linux server. And from the very start of working on this last week to develop a WP site for this customer, the speed/performance issue has been horrible.

Currently I’m using both a Twitter and Weather.com plug in, and both of these started to fail today in trying to retrieve data. This causes massive delays in the home page from displaying. My productivity is zilch today because of the poor performance.

I then went to the GoDaddy’s site, and realized that nowhere on their site do they publish any type of Network Status or Server Status, which I am used to on my other web hosting sites. I contacted GoDaddy support on this, thinking surely there’s a place where they inform their users about outages and the like, and their answer was “Nope, we don’t provide that type of information”.

    I suspect I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am. I’m also disappointed.

GDHosting, if you truly do work for GoDaddy, I’d be happy to provide you with details of the account.

Any hosting company can have its problems. A large company with hundreds or thousands of servers is bound to have servers going down here and there once in a while. Anyone can have problems with any host and, when they do, they go out and complain about it. Some people get lucky and go years without problems, others bounce around from host to host and continually run into problems.

Any shared hosting company’s servers can be effected by other users on the same server, too. Bad reviews are bound to exist for hosting companies. In agreement with wptomcat, I’m sure there are many people who host with GoDaddy and have had little or no problems and are happy, just as I am sure that there are people who are hosted with BlueHost who have had problems and complain about it. Personally, I have not had problems with them, but I also appreciate that most of the technical support staff there also likes WordPress and goes above and beyond to help me out. No offense to outsourcing hosting companies, but I do appreciate being able to contact them and speak to someone in America who I can understand.

I also use GoDaddy hosting and have submitted 4-5 separate tickets related to the WordPress Hosting. I have been “shined” off each time telling me that my sites are fine. However, when I use a 3rd party monitoring service of my domain on their servers; I get a ton of error messages from the monitoring software. My sites load sooooooooo slow or not at all. I have optimized the database, used all the plugins suggested and nothing has helped. I am leaving GoDaddy for better faster hosting. Also, when there is a problem, rather than telling me that the issue is not their server; why not take some responsibility GoDaddy. Pfft, GoDaddy is/will lose a lot of great customers like myself.

bh_wp_fan, from my readings, I have come across a plethora of posts related to people having problems with GoDaddy hosting. The masses have spoken.

hello, well it’s good that I am a happy camper with godaddy for quite awhile, it just so happen, that i BOUGHT the DELUXE SHARED PLAN (wordpress plan)

    instead the economic plan.

to the guy who created this pOst named TRUTHSTORE

i visited your site, and it loads for 5-6 seconds, i believed it’s reasonably fast. comparing to others saying that their site load for 30 effin seconds.

SO BEFORE YOU POST SOMETHING could you please tell US, your HOSTING PACKAGE DEAL? THAT YOU BOUGHT IN GODADDY? THANKS!

I have a few GoDaddy accounts. My one account with, Deluxe Shared hosting is fine. I’ve used almost all 25 mysql databases on wordpress installs, and run about 20-30 seperate sites off the one hosting plan.

However, A client asked me to build a wordpress site for them, and i RECOMENDED godaddy. WOOPS. They got the economy shared hosting, and from the start its been slow. Recently its taken 11-15 seconds to pull up the home page. Upon calling customer support, they told me its a problem with my ISP, and maybe I could call back again to get some help doing a traceroute to help diagnose. I quickly did a traceroute and found out that it was hopping past my ISP, to secureserver.com and got lost in space there. the woman would not help me, so i asked to speak to her supervisor. she then told me: “okay… why do you want to speak to a supervisor?”
“because im not happy with the service im getting.”
“he’s going to tell you the same thing i did.”
“i dont mind, i’d like to speak with him”
“well, fine, the wait is really long though, it could be 5-8 minutes”
    “that’s fine”

and the supervisor didn’t help me either. Its my fault, and I should call my ISP, and ask them to correct the problem. i’m sure the lovely people who provide my internet service are going to go out of their way to diagnose their dns issues.

I also did a reverse ip lookup, and found 4,142 sites hosted off the ip i am on.

i think i may be on the switching bandwagon as well.

if you are godaddy and want to contact me, please
email, [email protected], i don’t want to put my clients url here.

    @pathofkarma
I want to help out. I sent you an email asking for more information, but would also like to point out this article that provides more details on correcting site speed issues: https://help.godaddy.com/article/5521

we have just launched this site with the expectation of over 500,000 visitors in the next 6 months. It is slow as. I have also recommended godaddy to some clients and also my sister ?? Now I feel like a fool.

Shame on you godaddy for cutting corners like this!

    https://www.childrens-cancer-charities.com/

So, looks like I am seeking another webhost and will have to completely rebuild the website. Bummer. Wonder if I just upgraded my godaddy account if that would solve the problem?

I would love to see my site load in under 8 seconds.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

If you are willing to move our site to a faster webhost we will trade you for sponsorship on our Child Cancer Challenge.

    Kind regards
    Scott

    Scott,

Sorry to hear this! I tested your site on and off our network and it looks to be loading properly. I did notice the theme took some time to load, however, that was only around a second. I added some notes to your account with additional information. Because this information is sensitive to your account, our support team will need to confirm account ownership. You can find the support team contact information here.
