• I have WordPress 4.1 installed on IIS 8.5. The site is up and running in a virtual directory titled WordPress. Can someone provide instructions on how to remove the virtual directory and run it directly from the Default Website?

    Hi,

The easiest solution here is to not change the existing WordPress site, but instead direct the default site to it.

This is a pretty straight forward approach, go to the WordPress site in IIS and on the right hand side click Basic Settings, copy the physical path it uses, go to the Default Web Site, open Basic Settings for this one and put in the one for the WordPress site.

Moving sites in IIS if it’s installed using any kind of tools can be a bit of a nightmare, so this is definitely the ideal approach to save your self some headaches.
