• I am really lost.

I have been using WordPress for years now and own a few self-hosted WordPress sites for at least 4-5 years now. That said, Import and Export are no stranger to me.

However, recently I tried partially exporting for the purpose of getting the content to my local server for testing, it only managed to export 4kb file. That can’t be right, is it?

Prior, I tried exporting “All” and I got a huge file, but when importing on WordPress running on MAMP. It takes forever and when it finally “done,” it is actually partially completed and to my surprised. Only the media were imported. There’s no post at all.

I don’t remember using this simple import/export was such a pain. Any advice, will be greatly appreciated.

  • Have you checked your web servers limits for uploading files, PHP memory size and script timeout time?

If your files are huge, importing them will take some time. Usually longer than the time PHP is configured to allow for a script to run. As a results PHP stops the scripts after X amount of minutes.

Make sure to reverse back to the default values after you finish the import.

    Hi titanas,

The uploading is not the first issue. The thing is, when I export partial using the WordPress built-in tool, it only put out a file 4kb in size, which is not possible.

I am stumped. I never had any problem with WordPress export until now.
