• Everyone does know that the plugin competition is underway …. right?
Shame on me for not officially mentioning it here, but the WordPress Plugin and Mod Competition officially started on April 15th and has been gathering steam.
Some good plugins have been submitted and plugin authors have been very responsive! There are a couple of requests for plugins on that blog and people have been visiting the wiki to get more information and to add their names to the list.
If you are a plugin developer, sign up and sign in on PluginBlog to ask for plugin idea requests, beta testing requests or to just announce a plugin. Thank you to everyone that is participating and everyone that is helping.
In spite of a good response from developers, we still need more participants and more plugins. There is a lot of money, praise and appreciation to be won! If you know of someone that would be a good participant, feel free to prod them. We would also really appreciate links back to the blog and the wiki from your blog.

In addition to the participation hoopla, we are actively seeking prize donations from the community and sponsorship ads for the blog and the wiki. Prizes can be anything. If you would like to help the WordPress community and have a couple of books or gift certs lying around, please email us (at mark at wltc dot net) and let us know.

  • I’d be happy to jump in, but I have so much code that’s ‘already released’. I guess there’s some quick new things I could do, or even some ‘add-ons’ to current code (like using my XMLParser to grab non-RSS data?).

If there’s more postings to the ‘developer wanted’ section, that’d help. ??

one thing I would love to see is just as we have compliant themes, to have as many compliant plugins as possible. I understand this isn’t always possible to achieve, but it would be nice to have the entire thing as compliant as possible, rather than having to disable plugin number 2 because it throws up validation errors

I’ve been looking for the actual plugins to see what people have contributed, but the above link has me scrolling through alot of plugin requests. Is there a central directory/list of plugin entries to poke and prod and try?

This is very exciting. When is the deadline?

The Plugin Wiki has a list of current entries, at the bottom of the main page.

I’ve found some really terrific plugins through the competition. I am now looking into being able to donate toward the prizes ??

    ….just donated ??

Thanks for the clarity. I didn’t realize that the thirteen listed were the entries. We need to advertise this contest more.

Come on, if you are holding back on your plugin entry – stop holding back. This is a great way of giving back to the WordPress Community. Sure wish I had the time and stuffing to do a plugin, but cheers on all who are participating!!! GO GO GO GO GO GO!

    WE NEED MORE PLUGINS.

This is just a sublte hint for those of you thinking about entering the plugin contest. The WordPress Community is counting on you all to help us use WordPress better with your additions and efforts. Thanks!

If you cannot help, do not post.

    Flames WILL BE DELETED.
    Don’t like that ? Tough.

Why was my original post asking a question deleted? Or was that some kind of retribution for using the word pithy?

miklb, please encourage your friend to enter their plugin in the contest. We’re all trying to encourage people here.

There are a few plugins by people that I’d love to take out of their hands and enter in the contest because they either don’t want to (inadequacy maybe) or not ready. But we have to let the plugin authors decided. Doesn’t mean we can’t push and shove a little. That’s just another word for encouragement <g>

miklb – my apologies for deleting your query. Sorry !

All’s good. It’s not a friend, just a plugin that was passed on through this site. It hasn’t been “released” and what was, was done since the 15th. I posted at their site telling them about the competition, and encouraged them to do so. That was since the original question, and all the drama.
Maybe now that there are monetary prizes, more people will be encouraged to enter.

I sure hope so, money prizes or not. There are some brilliant folks out there making plugins that I totally and completely depend upon with WordPress.

Besides, making plugins for WordPress is a nice way to get your name in lights! ??

Thanks for encouraging them to enter the competition. We need to spread the word about this contest. It’s so fun to see what creative things people come up with.

Also, when is the deadline for the contest? The wiki says April 15 + 2 months – so I assume June 15?
