• I just wrote a new post on my blog, and for some reason WordPress is removing my closing HTML tags. For example, I italicized something, but when I look at the blog post, it shows the tag was NOT closed and the rest of the post is italicized. When I hit “edit post” directly from the blog, the edit screen shows the closing tag is no longer there.

    This happens with </i>, </a>, </strong>, </em>, </b>, </blockquote>.

This is the first time it’s happened, and so far this is the only blog post that’s affected. I was able to get around the issue by using the Text Control plugin and turn off wpautop formatting, but it’s still annoying to have to mark up everything with </p> and the like.

    Those are invalid tags!

Sorry, I meant </strong>, etc etc. I accidentally hit the backslash.

Are you typing html tags into the wysiwyg animal? Only then happens that WP messes with the code.
I never use the wysiwyg and WP never changes any of my handcoded posts…

I don’t think I’m using the wysiwyg; the post box looks exactly like the one I’m typing in right now. I tried it both ways – hand typing, and when those messed up, going back and using the buttons along the top to retag them. Both times the post stripped the closing tags.

Check the Options > Writing settings and make sure the “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” box is NOT checked.

I think that did it, thanks!

(Very odd… I wonder why it started doing this now?)
