Please create a WordPress repository for the js and css so that we could offload these from our servers.

Better still if these were to be hardcoded so that users should not be bothered about such tasks

The non-profit WordPress Foundation really doesn’t have the means to host JS and CSS for every single WordPress site out there, which by the way powers 25.7% of all know websites: https://w3techs.com/technologies/history_overview/content_management/all/y

It’s just not going to happen, I’m sorry.

I can understand that. I am talking of the core WordPress JS and CSS. If the was a kind of official WordPress repositories in CDNJS or JSDELIVR with proper versions it would be of immense help to the users. For example, Jquery is hosted by these repositories which is used by a fairly large number of sites. The problem with using some of the existing ones is that we have to dig into the getting the versions used by WordPress for each of the JS and many a times even the supposedly same versions do not exactly match the ones used by WordPress

Do you want a better way of identifying which version of jQuery that WordPress is running? Edit: Actually, just the version that it is bundled with?

Just to clear this up again:

Please create a WordPress repository for the js and css so that we could offload these from our servers.

That’s the part that will never happen and what James was referring to. Hosting a site has costs and the WordPress Foundation (which is a non-profit) cannot and has no desire to host that JS and CSS for anyone else.

Ok I have got the cost part. But had no idea that hosting JS and CSS in sites like CDNJS and jsdelivr had costs involved. Thanks

But please do keep this option in mind for the future. I am sure that a large number of users like me could contribute to this and given the fact that WordPress powers more than 24% of websites, the amount per user would not be substantial. These are just top of the mind thoughts and of course I do not know what it really involves. You guys would really be the best judge in evaluating its cost and benefit.

    Thanks again
