Do I need WordPress hosting to have SaaS or it can be anywhere?

    Thanks,

  • What is SaaS?

WordPress is already a web based application. I’m not exactly sure how you are interpreting “software as a service” in this case, but yes… WordPress can be installed on any web server that meets the minimum criteria for supporting it. Yours, or any other remote host. But it must to be installed on a web server.

@clayton: Thanks for the explanation. I had visions of a commando version of WordPress for a while there. ??

    Thanks Guys.
So that means there is no truly SaaS based WordPress. Only some plug-ins and templates can be SaaS. right?

That’s awesome… puts a whole new meaning behind having a secure WordPress installation!

It’s all web based, pretty much like any other platform. Everything is accessed from the sites root directory over the web, much the same as any web site. MySQL stores your data, and PHP pulls it into your template for display. Plugins and templates(themes) each go in dedicated directories where WordPress can consistently locate and apply them as required. I’m not sure if SaaS would technically fit the description here. You are never actually delivering executable or editable software to an endpoint. The software is simply a means to dynamically display your content. It’s a blogging software/cms. Extremely flexible for creating your own web space.
