• Hi,

I have recently installed Yoast’s WordPress SEO and Photocrati’s NextGEN Gallery plugin and need help to understand how the two plugins work together to help Google index my images…

The latest version of NextGEN Gallery claims to make it easier for images in a gallery to be indexed by Google and returned in a Google image search. This is aided by the XML sitemap feature of the WordPress SEO plugin which creates a separate sitemap for different content types, including images.

All of my images have about a dozen keywords in the ‘tags’ field and all of these ‘tags’ are listed in the https://www.domainname.com/ngg_tag-sitemap.xml sitemap.

Now what I am really struggling to understand is how on earth Google is supposed to know from crawling this sitemap which images are tagged with which tags and return that image in a search?

Any help with this, or another way to get the images in my NextGEN Galleries indexed by Google will be very much appreciated!

    Thanks

Do you have an answer to your question? I don’t understand either how this works. I have Yoast WordPress SEO and Nextgen Gallery installed. But I don’t use tags, because this is not working somehow.

If I look in my sitemap I see that the amount of images for each page is correct. However, only the first image on that page is being indexed by google.

When I look in Google’s Help programs for webmasters I see that 36 images are send, but only 8 are indexed. The 8 images corresponds to 8 pages containing pictures…

    Jeroen,
Instead of posting at a six months old thread, please post your question at the plugin’s dedicated section:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo

And for getting help for crawling and indexing problem’s make use of your Google Webmaster tools account and other Google help sections.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will also make a dedicated post there.

The problem is that looking at Google Webmaster tools for help is only showing me information that is for someone who builds his own sitemaps. Or for someone who makes a plugin like this one.

Like I said it is giving me information that seems strange to me, so that is why I posted it here.
