• Please can someone advise me which files I need to download to fully backup my WordPress site. I’m using Cyberduck FTP and would like to avoid downloading anything unnecessary (space saving!)

    Thank you!

  • Backup everything just to be safe. If saving a few MBs is more important to you than making sure you have a good, complete backup (I don’t recommend this), download all contents of the wp-content directory only. And get rid of the themes (in wp-content/themes that you won’t use). But again, it’s only a few MBs, nothing worth worrying about.

For the database, make a full backup — don’t be selective by only backing up some tables and forget others.

Hi – Thank you very much. Will do !

You could use a tool like wp-backitup to backup all your themes, plugins and database. wp-backitup will do this all for you and put it in a zip file you can download right in your dashboard.

    Hope that helps.
