So this isn’t really an issue with the plugin, but I am curious as to how WordPress Stats gets its information, specifically on clicks. Could this somehow be client-side only?

So upon looking at the summary of link clicks from my WordPress site, I notice a few obvious spam/malware site links being clicked on from users.

However, no matter how hard I search, I cannot find the source of these links in my pages. I’ve also searched all database tables for some of the URLs to see if I can find it there – nothing.

How can these links be reported as clicks if they’re not on the site anywhere? Or are they just really well-hidden?

Here’s a screenshot of some of the links according to WordPress Stats: https://i.imgur.com/mtaESsC.png

The best thing to do is to use Jetpack’s Omnisearch to see if they can be found anywhere in your site.

If not, it’s traditional click spam. Bots and compromised browser add-ons will falsify their click records, leaving behind this spam in your stats. It’s a deplorable tactic.

My Jetpack has not been connecting to word press it keeps giving this errorYour website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: https://jetpack.me/su

@professor4 – please start your own thread – your issue is totally different – do so here:

And include a link to your site so they can help you.

@james – Thanks, I didn’t think of Omnisearch. Just ran a search of some of the URLs and nothing was found. I’m hoping this means it isn’t an issue I can fix since I can’t find a trace of any of these spam URLs on the site. Thanks for the advice.

Yep, if Omnisearch can’t find them, they don’t exist on your site, and it’s just Click Spam.
