    Hello there,

i have a serious issue with WordPress after updating to 5.5.
Some of them have switched to alfa versions without my intervention. I did not opt for alpha, they are working / production sites and i really don’t need alpha versions and daily updates in the middle of the day with customers logged in. Most of them are old installs from 2014-18, updated regulary and well maintained.

Also, for some of them i got back old themes from 2012, 2013, up to 2020.
This is strange and i don’t know how to stop the automatic updates.
I have about 30-40 wp installs waiting to be updated to 5.5 but with this problem i’m not in the mood for more problems.

Please, anyone else had this problem after 5.5 update?

    Thanks.

If you were on the bleeding edge stream it will continue to auto-update as it sees a “minor” version. This happens after a release when the alpha branch is switched to trunk. Sorry. If you select the Beta/RC branch when you were still on 5.5RC it would have updated to 5.5 release and stopped there until the next beta. I think.

You should be able to reinstall 5.5 and deactivate the Beta Tester plugin until you are ready to test again.

To be clear, this should only have happened on sites with the Beta Tester plugin active and set to bleeding edge nightly.

    Hello Andy,

i did not install the beta tester plugin or made any other settings regarding beta, or alpha. Regular install, old install from 2014, updated and maintained. Updated on 18.08.2020 to 5.5 a few days later i have noticed that the sistem is sending updates report by email and in the bottom right says that i’m on a beta version, etc.
Today it had made an update around 12:30 in the middle of the day with customers online.

Ok, let’s say it was a fluke, or smth, but i have 4-5 sites with the same problem. How come. ??

I work with WordPress for some years now, the pages in questions are production sites. Nobody in his right minds would install a beta tester plugin on a production site.

That’s very strange. I’m not sure what else could be doing this.

Can you share a list of the installed plugins?

You should be able to switch back to the release version of 5.5 from the core-update.php page.

It seems you may have been on the point release nightly stream, but I don’t really have any idea.
