• Hello,

I have WordPress installs on two different hosts. One of which is a horrible (nightmare of a..) host (Gazzin.com) and the other is on Bluehost.com.

The gazzin install which was originally created via fantastico, requires that I enter username and pass every time I upgrade WordPress or a plugin.

The bluehost install which was originally created via simplescripts doesn’t require me to enter anything. I just click on upgrade and it automatically goes to it.

So my question is, how do I setup the other one to automatically do it as well vs me having to enter the ftp information every single time. I ask because I will be moving the information from that server to a better host very soon, and want the WordPress installs to operate just as easily as the ones I have on bluehost. I am sure its a sql option that simplescripts sets up and fantastico doesn’t (I won’t be using fantastico anymore).

    Thanks ??

  • I think you’ll find that this is dictated by the hosting provider – not WordPress.

idk. It sounds like there is more to it than that. Else it should error saying auto ftp not working, you will need to enter your ftp information manually. I mean, what’s the difference between it doing it and me entering the information and telling it to do it. Sounds like in the end it would use the same method of operation to get the job done. Its just starting it…feels more like an sql settings somewhere or something I can mod on the server. If it is a server setting..then I would need to know what it is so that I can have it changed.

I am still thinking its a difference between how Fantastico and SimpleScripts installs the blogs.

I agree but I think there may be some room for individual, per host, configuration in either app. It sounds like your 2nd SimpleScripts install saved a copy of your ftp login details whilst the Fantastico install didn’t. That could be down to how each app is configured or it may be due to the way ftp logins are created by the host. Bluehost might auto-generate ftp logins from the domain account details whilst Gazzin might use a more ad hoc, in-house, method (which, arguably, would be more secure). Fantastico may not be able to store what it doesn’t have access to – if you know what I mean.

Ok, but there has to be a way to modify something somewheres. WordPress gaints its information based on the information stored in the sql tables. So there has to be values I can manually add somewhere to store such information.

Ok. I will give up on the idea that this is possible then else someone would have jumped on it by now. Too bad, it sounded like such an easy solution. Thanks.
