WordPress Update from 4.2.6 to 4.4.1 failed

I tried to update my wordpress site Christmas time but although everything seemed ok, I was unable to add any new blog posts, just got scrolling icon.

I have updated my GAMEPLAN theme, updated all my plugins as recommended.

Now when trying to update my wordpress site again although everything seems ok, I am still unable to add any new blog posts, just got scrolling icon.

I have got backups so I may need to roll back.

Do I need to do some sort of manual update as this seems to fail every time ??
