  • I just updated to wordpress 4.7 too and now my site is gone.
    This is the site: justbyoga.com

    here is the error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /home/content/47/5987347/html/wp-content/themes/zerif-lite/inc/customizer.php on line 41

    Same issue for me on my site! The social icon boxes are now long drawn out ovals and don’t look right. My site is https://feastingnotfasting.com

    Is anyone going to address this issue? I have the same problem: squares where icons used to be since updating the plugin. I’ve updated to latest version of WP and this plugin and now the bug. Please advise.

    @feastingnotfasting the icons appear OK on your home page but the widget area on all other pages is messed up. I am on Safari looking at your site.

    @shrimpsaladcircus Are you using a custom function or filter for your icons? Your plugin style sheet is showing 2.0.1, but the output of your icons (class names on the list items) aren’t what they should be.

    @bgardner, I read the article here – https://www.studiopress.com/simple-social-icons-2-0/ – but it is pretty technical.

    Do I need to add another plugin to make the Simple Social Plugin Work?

    https://www.FaithandHealthConnection.org – see my messed up widget in the sidebar.

    Thanks in advance!

    @bgardner – I think my designer added to CSS to add a heart icon for Bloglovin, but I can’t dig into it because my “Edit CSS” menu option from my WP dashboard is redirecting me to the template customizer.

    Other than adding the icon, I never altered anything with the plugin. My stylesheet only includes the following:

    /* Simple Social Icons
    ——————————————— */
    .simple-social-icons ul li:before {
    content: none !important;
    padding-right: 0 !important;

    What do I need to do to fix it? I can uninstall and reinstall the plugin if need be. Thanks!

    @shrimpsaladcircus My guess is your designer also used the function/filter for adding new icons, which means there is probably code in your functions.php file that is really the issue. So reinstalling the plugin won’t help. We added the Bloglovin’ icon to the plugin, so there’d be no need for extra code anyway. If you want me to look at your functions file, I’d need to login to your dashboard to see if I’m right, and if so, and I have access to the theme editor, can remove the code that was added to confirm.

    If you want me to do that, hit me up on my contact form so we can discuss giving me access.

    I just updated to the latest version of Simple Social Icons and am running WordPress 4.6.1. My icons are now very large in the footer section of every page and a large bar is displayed. I am using the Genesis Sample theme. It can be seen on the website: https://americanexpansionjoints.com.

    @theresathomson I see a tiny icon in your footer widgets:

    footer widgets

    You can control the size of this in the widget settings by changing the ‘icon size’ value.

    Nick,

    After I updated the plugin, the website displayed an extremely large icon with a rectangular bar in front of it. I originally had the size set to 50 pixels, so I made it very small to see the effect but there was no change. You saw it though. I had refreshed the browser window a few times to no avail. Yet now it is working, so not sure why as I made no changes. Now, it is working just fine. Thank you for your response!

    Thanks for the update, @theresathomson – sounds like a caching issue. Glad it is working for you now.

    For anyone else with this issue, you can try:

    • Clearing all browser and server caches. This includes WordPress caching plugins, caching features that your web host provides, and third-party caching services such as CloudFlare
    • Looking for custom styles in your theme’s stylesheet (they will likely include the .simple-social-icons class name). These may need to be adjusted to work with the new version of the plugin.
    • Looking for custom icon filters in your theme’s PHP files (most likely in functions.php). These may also need to be adjusted to work with the new version of the plugin. The snippets for reordering icons and adding additional icons may help.

    If you need help adapting any icon styles or filters you’ve added previously to work with the new version of Simple Social Icons, please feel free to start a new topic. You’ll need to include a link to your site, together with the filters or CSS code you had in place for the old version of the plugin.

    Hi Brian and Nick,

    After I updated the plugin the social icon boxes no long display the backgrounds colors and some of the icons are different.
    For that reason I had to put the previous version again on my webite https://www.bemvestir.com.

    However, I’ve cloned my web site to a new one – https://wordpress-20418-45020-194591.cloudwaysapps.com and I checked there is any filter in functions.php. But there’s custom styles (please check https://wordpress-20418-45020-194591.cloudwaysapps.com/customize-the-simple-social-icons/), and I can not figure out where the issue is.

    I ask for your help because my technical knowledge in this area is limited, since I’m just a fashion blogger.

    Thanks

    Hmm.. you’re right. They do look normal in Safari. In Chrome they are jumbled though on both the home page and individual pages. Have you seen this issue yet where the icons are only messed up on Chrome and/or have any advice on how to fix it?

    Hi Brian and Nick,

    Can you help me with my issue?

    Kind Regards
