“WordPress Users” list

All users are by default enrolled into the list “WordPress Users”. I do not wish for users to know the existence of this list but there seems no way to disable that.

To make matter worse, users are made aware of this list, when they join any other list on my site.

How can I make it hidden and completely an internal list?
