WordPress using too much RAM on new server

Hello,

I have a WP based blog hosted in Hostgator. We had the shared host “baby” plan. The website ran fine but we started having high CPU usage time (which is limited to 1500 per hour) so we decided to move to a VPS. After moving to the VPS, even with little to no load, mysql gets killed because of lack of RAM. I tested loading 25 users and it used 997MB of 1GB available of RAM. MySQL gets killed and the website goes down.

Is it normal for a wordpress install to use more than 1GB with only 25/30 users at the same time?

I have around 15 plugins running.

What can I do to optimize my wordpress? I’m using CloudFlare. Thanks!
