wordpress versions mixed up

I updated to 5.4.1 but found I could not edit my existing pages with that version. I tried to roll back to 5.2.4. Now my “about wordpress” says “congratulations for updating to 5.2.4.” But when I go to the updates tab it says I have the latest version. I think, per my other site, that would be 5.4.1. (Have not updated the second site because I can’t figure out how to use the 5.4.1 editor with my Moesia widgets.) Sure enough, the editor on my supposedly 5.2.4 site is the 5.4.1 editor and I can find no way to update my pages. The editor shows that I’m using a “site origin widget” but I can’t find any way to edit what’s inside that widget. I’d like to just be able to edit in the nice simple, flexible, editor that I still have on my other site – still on 5.2. Please please help. I haven’t been able to find anything about this mess anywhere.
