• Hi – I run the following website: https://www.wandlepiscators.net & I’m getting reports from a few users of virus/trojan alerts coming from their anti-virus software when they access the site.
I can find nothing that might be causing this, and am not getting any warnings from my own anti-virus software.
My question is – is this some kind of false positive? Or is it something malicious lurking in the site? Either way – any suggestions how I might be able to solve this?!
    Many thanks for any help.

  • The website at https://www.wandlepiscators.net contains elements from the site statscounter2051.yourgoogleanalytics.com, which appears to host malware – software that can hurt your computer or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that contains malware can infect your computer.

That’s not a good sign. You’ll need to figure out where that’s coming from — check over your theme files for recent updates.

Hmm – ok, thanks. No idea what I’m looking for here. The only recently modified file I can find in the themes is contact.php (I don’t remember doing anything to this in the last year, and it looks like it’s been edited in the last 10 days). But there’s nothing I can see there that looks suspicious – certainly nothing that’s causing any kind of redirect. Any clues?

    Thanks!

I’ve ended up re-installing the whole theme, and all now seems to be fine so there was clearly a dodgy file in there somewhere. I’ve also made sure WP is fully up to date and have changed admin passwords etc…
    Thanks again for your help.

Though I have not faced such a problem till now, but it is always better to be aware of such things. and chris, thanks for the pointer checked it out and even copied to a file ??

Statcounters aren’t worth it. They are only novelties. Get rid of ’em.

Hi, I have the same problem with https://www.puteaux-echecs.fr
People using IE8/McAfee, IE7/McAfee, IE8/Avast get at best a warning, at worst are blocked. It works fine with IE7/NOD32, and with Firefox/McAfee.
AFAIK, there is no counter of any sort ou our very simple website.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.
