WordPress vs. Drupal for Latest Project

  • First I’ll start off by saying I don’t want to start yet another huge debate about why Drupal or WordPress is better but I am more curious on what is better for the latest project I’ll probably be working on.

    The site will be full of content (photos, videos, etc.) and will expand down the line. There will be two or three users managing the content so I am assuming permissions and user roles won’t be a big deal. For the moment it seems like they want it hosted on GoDaddy which may be difficult for Drupal to handle because of the resources.

    I’ve been using WordPress for almost four years now so I am used to it. I am not that used to Drupal since I haven’t used it much but have been trying it out more lately.

    What should I do? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • I’m guessing that for less than WordPress biased information and opinions on Drupal, you may need to spend some time in the Drupal support forums to get a feel for what’s really what.

    …isn’t even an issue with WordPress. It’s all just basic features.

    My suggestion would be to setup a Drupal installation locally for yourself, and play with it for a few weeks. Get a feel for what it can do, and then make an informed decision based on actual user experience.

    Sounds like you might want to spend some more time exploring what WordPress can actually do as well. Then you’ll have a good base of personal user experience to form your conclusions around.

    Thanks for your response! I am starting to lean more towards WordPress for the project. I’ve been working with Drupal locally on and off for a couple of weeks now and so far am thinking I can probably accomplish many things by using custom post types in WordPress. Plus like I mentioned I’d be scared to see how Drupal runs on GoDaddy. It also seems like it’d be easier to train people on WordPress. Typically the sites I work on are usually smaller so the choice is obvious but this one has me going back and forth. Thanks again!
