WordPress will not update plugins or core.

    While attempting to update both plugins and wordpress core separately, I receive the error that the download fails: “An error occurred while updating [plugin]: Download failed.”, with a similar error for WP Core, however, in either case, no other details are provided. From all indications, everything else seems to work fine, and only recently has this stopped working for ALL the WP sites that reside on this server (3 sites).

    I’ve checked permissions, logs, host files, etc. I can’t find any indication as to why this is happening. Has anyone ever encountered such a thing?

    Perchance is this a multisite install?

    It’s not but I’ve fixed my issue. I’m still not sure of the nature of the problem, but I restarted Apache and everything went back to normal. I’ve never seen an issue like it before. No error reporting to be found. Nothing in the logs, nothing returned by php.
