WordPress with GoDaddy

Hi all. Im new to website creation, however i fancied making a website with WordPress. I bought a domain and ftp with GoDaddy and tried to install the WordPress application (about 10 times now!) but for some reason its not working – or not working as i would expect?

Once installed it says the link for me to access my admin panel is https://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin however when i try to navigate to this page it just says page not found??

Am i right in assuming that once the application is installed i should be able to navigate to the admin page and make changes similar to the way i would change a blog on the wordpress website? If so, or probably even if not what am i doing wrong with this application??
