WordPress wont use page from a Child Theme to overwrite a page of the Parent th

So I am editing a theme I purchased this month by making a child theme so that my edits wont get overwritten when the theme gets updated.

Due to my hosting company, I have to edit the contact form so that it follows my hosting companies practices or else they wont send my contact form emails.

The form I am editing is called contact.php so it’s a custom page.

So I copied that file into my child theme but WordPress keeps using the original contact.php from the Parent theme.

What am I doing wrong?
