• Hi all,

I use WordPress and Woocommerce and have a simple webshop. I run Google Analytics and want the user to be able to say YES to these cookies or NO to these cookies.

Google Tag Manager shows some wordpress/woommerce cookies and I think those are the needed cookies where I do not need consent for in order to have a functioning website.

So my question is, in the block script configuration. What is the correct code to place there for Google Analytics to work? And will it then work accross the whole website correctly?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Hi,

The only cookies/scrypts we need to ask consent for under the GDPR ( AVG ?? ) are the so called “non functional cookies”.

Meaning cookies that are NOT absolutely necessary to let the site or shop function but are used to track personal data ( even an non anonimised IP address is considered “personal data”. Google analytics collects IP addresses ( unless you set it to anonimised ip in your analytics account and uncheck the “share with third parties”).

The script, should go in the cookie notice blocking feature.
You need to remove that script from the original place, depending on how and where you added them to your site ( manually, using a plugin … )

From then on, those scripts will be blocked by default, untill the users hits the consent button.

    Hope this helps?

    Thanks @logologics

However, you didn’t answer the question around whether or not the plugins “block” function will allow Google Analytics to track users on ALL pages of the website (assuming they accept Cookies).

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    Hi Goose,

Yes, it will track all, just as it did before when you added the script or UA elswere.
I tested this, by using my Google Analytics account and watch the real time visitors.

It showed the visitor on every page I hit, so pretty sure it works like that yes.

    Hope this answered your question,
    Annie
