WordPress.com not uploading to my new domain

I am on a Macintosh with safari browser. I’m trying to get my dad’s blog transferred for him and on his own domain as a fathers days present (so this is urgent!). When I export his wordpress.com blog it just comes up on my browser but not as the file that it is suppose to. I have tried saving it as html and as web archive (page source)- Those are the only forms my computer will let it save it in… and upload it to his new domain hosted through blue host… and it says that it worked but then when I check nothing has been imported. I have changed my permissions and everything and just can not get it working. I have run out of things to try. Please help!
