• Hello,
Recently I joined wordpress.com to create a website. I “upgraded” through wordpress.com to have my own domain through them.
    Then,
I realized that www.ads-software.com has the kind of editing I prefer over wordpress.com.
So, I went to dreamhost and became a new member then added the same domain name on their site so I could create a www.ads-software.com website through dreamhost.
    Finally,
I went back to wordpress.com and changed the nameservers to point to dreamhost.
    Question,
Did I do this properly? It works! but I want to make sure in adding the same domain to dreamhost that I have on wordpress.com is legal…..is there a different way I should do this? Thanks!

  • If you own the domain, you can do anything with it you want: host it where ever, park it, sell it. See Moving a?Blog — WordPress.com

Kevin, it’s totally legal and okay to do what you did ??

You can move your website to any host you want, and WordPress.com is just that – a web host. Transferring your domain to DreamHost (or anyone else) is not only legal, but encouraged if you can’t find the right fit.

If you need any help with your site on DreamHost, let us know. We’re happy to help you out.
