    Hi all!

Sorry for my ignorance, but I was wondering if you could tell me if I need my WordPress.com account still now that I have migrated to www.ads-software.com?

    I am asking because:
    1. I received an email from WordPress.com in regards to my domain mapping. Now that I am on www.ads-software.com which is mapped to my domain, will I still need this mapping?
    2. If I don’t need this mapping, would it affect my site if I simply just delete my WordPress.com account to avoid my own confusion in the future?

Any advice appreciated thank you ??

    Amy

Are you using Jetpack? If so, then you’ll still need your WordPress.com account to use it.

Is your domain registered through WordPress.com or just mapped? If it’s registered, you’ll still need your WordPress.com account to manage the domain.

Overall, I don’t recommend deleting your WordPress.com account, as you’ll lose the account name and WordPress.com blog URL if you do. Instead, set the blog as private for now via Settings -> Reading in your blog’s Dashboard, just in case you ever need to go back.

    Hi James,
    Thank you for your answer.

I *think* I am using Jetpack. I know I have Jetpack installed as an app but not exactly sure what it is doing for my blog. My domain is registered under .com initially, and now moved over to .org (or mapped over? I had one of those assisted migrations so not sure)

I’ve renewed the mapping anyway – is there any way to completely move over to .org in the future?

www.ads-software.com is not a domain registrar, so you can’t move your domain to www.ads-software.com. If it was registered with WordPress.com (you paid WordPress.com for domain registration, not just mapping), and you did not transfer the domain to another registrar, then it is likely still registered with WordPress.com and you should keep your WordPress.com account so you can manage it.

Regarding Jetpack, if you are using it, there will be a Jetpack section in your Dashboard’s sidebar.

Ah I see. Thank you very much! I must sound so dumb!

    You’re welcome!

You’re not dumb, the distinction between the two could be a lot clearer, I totally understand.
