• No it isn’t – and if you’ve seen that message it’s some odd DNS error and not the domain nipping out for a bite to eat. I’ve had this error for minutes / hours and it’s really annoying.

On Windows you can avoid this error by editing your Hosts file. It’s not tricky at all:
    https://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm#Editor
and the entry you need in there is:
    72.232.44.122 www.ads-software.com

It’s also out of Matt’s control – even he can’t change DNS the way this is ??

  • That’s awesome, Podz. Thanks for the 411. Now, however, I have a question. I’ve added the entry in the appropriate alphabetical location, but I can’t save the file. Any ideas?

Edit: every other entry is listed as 127.0.0.1 (home); should I list www.ads-software.com similarly?

    alphabetical location?
My hosts file was empty – I assume yours was not?

What happens when you do try to save?
    Nothing useful on that page?

Really? I had literally thousands of entries, all listed as 127.0.0.1. The file was complete with a commented-out paragraph at the top listing updates. I did find out, however, that it was set to read-only. Is it safe to delete everything and simply put the www.ads-software.com info in there?

odds are you have an antispyware thingy of some sort “blackholing” a bunch of known-bad domains.

Ah, and that would explain why it’s read-only. Okay, I’ll just add WP to the list and keep what I’ve got. Thanks guys!
