  • Same here, when I add a preview image to the whole thing just locks up and freezes….

OK I solved this. It’s something to do with the player.swf file that gets distributed with the plugin being incompatible/out of date.

Download the latest version of the JWPlayer from the web site, copy the file named player.swf and overwrite the player.swf that is contained within plugins/wordtube folder in your WordPress installation.

Can’t believe such a fundamental error has not been picked up by the developer to be honest but there you go, fixed it after a week of pissing around!

you totally rock John, thanks so much

No worries, glad its helped you as well!

Thanks, I had the same problem and johnasp’s answer helped me too!!!

Hi, I am having the same problem. I use Wordtube version 2.2.2 and WordPress 2.8.

I both used JW player 4.2 and the latest 4.5. With both the thumbs are not working, though I am pointing to the wp-content/uploads map where I store the thumbs.

Is it maybe a resize problem? Does is resize automatically.

I hope someone can help me.

    Thanks in advance.

I am having this problem with WordPress 2.8.4 and LW Player 4.5. I’ve replaced the player with one in the JW download with no luck.

I had this problem too, until I found out that one of the links pointing to the image file was wrong. When I fixed this link the problems were gone, it seems wordtube cannot handle broken links to images when used as a thumb. Hope this helps for others as well.

I had the same problem. I store my .flv’s and corresponding jpg thumbnails on an Amazon S3 server and when I loaded the S3 jpg into the wordtube media entry, I would get the very same problem everyone is talking about in this entry.

So I tried uploading the pic to the media folder and reference it from there. IT WORKED. Not sure why or what the deal is, but hey, as long as it works.

    Thanks Alex.

My solution was just omitting the “www.” in the reference.

So if you have your thumbnail file in “https://www.whatever.com/uploads/thumbs/image.png” as the reference, then you just need to change it to “https://whatever.com/uploads/thumbs/image.png“. And it solved my problem.

    Hope this helps.

It’s strange that this is only happening for new videos.

I had the same problem, and fixed it with John’s suggestion of getting the new player.swf file. That fixed the player locking up problem.

However, this new video I just uploaded, for whatever reason, cannot display its thumbnail at all, and only shows a black screen. I’ve tried the thumbnail as both a JPG and PNG file. No other previous video files have this problem, only this new one.

I also uploaded the new yt.swf file as well, even though I didn’t know if I should or not. It didn’t seem to have any effect whatsoever.

Alex Rabe, if you’re reading this, do you have any suggestions? It does seem like Longtail wants more advertising though, because they put that big block of banner in the new player.swf; ah well.

I’ve got same problem with JW Player 5 (WP 2.9.2, wordtube 2.2.2)
    thumbs URL – definitely correct

On the ‘link’ option, should I be able to put a post link in there? As on trying it I clicked the thumbnail but it just started playing rather that linking (which I thought it would do as I put the url to a post page in the link field?)
