Workaround for Blogger to Wp import problem?

I’m helping a friend import his blogspot posts to his spiffy new WP site. Here’s the problem: We can’t get Bloggers to upload his archives via FTP. If keeps repeating ) percent, or sometimes 50 percent. I’ve double, triple and even quadruple checked all the settings. I’ve even tried FTPing these files to my site. Supposedly, this is a “known issue” with Blogger.

Does anyone know of thing that would help? Any known workarounds?

How about publishing the scaled down site to blog*spot, then saving it as a text file, renaming the extension .php and then giving it a try?
