Working with wordpress on local server for different domain hosts

Hello,

I am working with word press on my local server for a class project. The class project asks us to help non-profit organizations re-design their website. If the non-profit already has a domain and own server, what would be the best option for helping them? Work solely on our local server and then transfer all the data to them at the end?
