• In my recent testing, I set up a honeypot WordPress site that was intentionally filled with known vulnerabilities, including WP File Manager 6.0, Sendgrid 1.11.8, and ACF Pro 6.1.5. I wanted to gauge the efficiency of various security plugins and services, such as Wordfence, Jetpack Protect, and Patchstack, in detecting these vulnerabilities.

Disappointingly, Wordfence found one with an ‘average’ priority (that’s the same priority as updating out-of-date plugins). Jetpack Protect fared slightly better, identifying all but the ACF Pro vulnerability. However, it was Patchstack that truly shone, detecting every single vulnerability present on the site.

One disappointing aspect of Jetpack Protect is their approach to offering discounts for agencies. While they do provide a 60% discount for agencies, they mention in one of their onboarding emails that they expect a minimum of five licenses within the first 90 days to maintain a “good standing in the program.” I think this requirement is strange and unreasonable. A better approach would be to either sell a plan for a minimum of five sites or sell individual licenses without imposing such conditions.

I believe Patchstack’s success in identifying these vulnerabilities can be attributed to its comprehensive database to be more extensive than that of wpscan.com. Patchstack encourages users to report vulnerabilities by offering a bounty, which in turn helps them maintain an up-to-date and extensive database of potential threats.

In addition to its impressive detection capabilities, Patchstack offers a free plan with email notifications, making it accessible to users who are budget-conscious but still want to protect their WordPress site. Furthermore, their customer support is fast, personal, and helpful, ensuring that users can quickly address any concerns or issues that arise.

In conclusion, my testing experience revealed that Patchstack outperforms other security plugins like Wordfence and Jetpack Protect when it comes to detecting and protecting against known vulnerabilities. Patchstack’s extensive database, accessible free plan, and stellar customer support make it an excellent choice for securing your WordPress site.
